The StoryCorpsU College Readiness Curriculum is an interactive, standards-based, college-readiness program that uses StoryCorps content and interviewing techniques to enhance students’ skills in the areas of speaking, listening, writing, and critical thinking, while also fostering their self-awareness, social awareness and school connectedness.

The StoryCorpsU curriculum was piloted in two high schools in Brooklyn, New York, from 2009 to 2011. In school year 2011-2012, StoryCorpsU is being implemented in twenty classrooms through partnerships in New York, St. Louis, and Washington, D.C. Looking forward, StoryCorpsU hopes to expand its reach to more schools and students across the country.

“The experience I had working with StoryCorps is something that words cannot convey. StoryCorps gave my students a platform not only to find their voice, but to let that voice be shaped by the words, history, and experiences of their loved ones. By sharing their interviews, these young men became more confident in themselves, more empathetic towards their peers, and more united as a group.”
